I know I have blogged recently about the Annual Red Cross Pre-Carnaval Dance, but I attended today, and I think it was the best I’ve ever seen. Especially the costumes. . . they were spectacular !
Our table had a great time and we hope that next year more of the international ladies will join us. The Yucatecan women are so pleased to see us at the Red Cross’ biggest fundraiser of the year; it shows them we are part of this community.
The Red Cross in Merida economically sustains the Cancer Hospital, the ambulance service and a host of medical facilities. A LOT of pesos are needed and this one event brings in the lion’s share of the annual budget.
I hope you enjoy the photos. (Click on any image to start the slideshow)

Great photos wish I could have been there. The first one of these pre-carnival dances I went to was when I first arrived in Ticul. The women just had a blast and the costumes where amazing so much thought and work going into it all.
And they boogied all night it was great fun. And Joanne I think you know me well now, that I cannot resist to dance to great music .
And what a surprise to my hostess to see me dance… I got hoots and thumbs up as they watched the gringa girating the hips to the latino music . I am sure many had not witnessed in real life…..
They did promise me that the next year they would make me the queen …………. never happened thank goodness!!
Yes I do know you love to dance! I can imagine the Yucatecan ladies were quite impressed by you. That’s what I mean… attending the dance would foster such good will.
Fun evening!!! Thanks to you, Joanna you got me dolled up to look like a beauty queen!!!!!So many beautiful costumes on the stage, as well as in the audience. Impressive.
Yes we had quite a time, didn’t we? Next year will be better than ever!
Great photos! As fundraisers go, that one looked like a lot of fun.
It is tons of fun, and since this group has been doing this event for about 30 years, they have lots ofexperience and everything runs smoothly.
Hi Shannon, once again I have tried to comment on your post but it won’t accept my wordpress ID. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong.
