Miguel Bosé

Music is one of my greatest pleasures. I enjoy almost all types, and in Merida we are fortunate to have access to so many live concerts. Music is to be found on every corner. You hear guitar most of all…

That makes me happy because the it is probably my favorite instrument. It can sound good even when played by unaccomplished musicians. And when I hear a really excellent guitar player, there’s nothing better. There are so many levels to it.

And guitar blends so well with the Spanish language.

It is easy to download music but when I find a CD I really love, I buy it. And I have one to highly recommend: PAPITWO, compiled by Miguel Bosé.

His parents were a famous Spanish bullfighter and an Italian actress, and he grew up among such personalities as Ernest Hemmingway and Pablo Picasso. He recorded his first album in 1975, and has not looked back. More than 14 million of his records have been sold in Spain, Italy and Latin America.

bose 2In 2010, he released an extremely popular album of duets called “Papito.” It went platinum in the first week. Now comes: Papitwo. And in my humble opinión, it is even better.

In this new one Miguel Bosé sings duets with Juanes, Alejandro Sanz, Tiziano Ferro, Joaquin Sabina, Penelope Cruz and Natalie Lafourcade, among others. You can purchase two different versions of  Papitwo. One has 14 tracks; the other has 28. Buy the 28.

Most of Miguel  Bosé’s songs are accompanied by strong guitar. And even if you don’t understand Spanish, the rhythm and the sensuous melody will sweep you along… The CD is so good that you won’t want to hear it as background, you´ll want to pour a glass of wine and sit down to listen and enjoy.

I know what you mean about the Spanish language set to music. On our last trip our first night was made amazing by the sound of ballads drifting over from Noche Mexicana. We were several blocks away, so the sound was so haunting and dreamy by the time it reached our balcony. An unbelievable welcome back.

Thanks for that referral. I agree, he’s a great singer indeed. And being a fan of duets as well, I’m going to get that latest album ASAP. I also find that my favorite Latin pieces improve my Spanish, in such a friendly fashion.

  3. That sound wonderful, and just what my eclectic music collection needs.

He also has a duet with Pebelope Cruz. My favourite by him is “Bandido”. His father had a hot affair with Ava Gardner before he married Miguel’s mother.

I love Miguel Bosé, too! But it’s sort of funny that you mention guitar, because I only hear the percussion in his songs.

Having just this week returned to the US from San Miguel, and wanting to stay immersed in that feeling as much as possible, I immediately went to Amazon and ordered this after reading your post. They only offered a CD with 14 songs, and the 28 were available on MP3 which I know nothing about. I’m hoping to learn though, because with my purchase they gave me the MP3 download free.

Thank you for the recommendation, and for all of your writing. I envy you your life!!
