072: The Merida Writers’ Group Presents…

001

The members of the Merida Writers’ Group are very content today… thanks to our friends Fran Greig, Jacquie Szorady and Karen Haslam. These three lovely ladies hosted our first-ever book signing at Fran’s condo in Chicxulub.

Our Yucatan, an anthology of short stories about our adoptive home, was published by Hamaca Press late last year. But with the Holiday Season, traveling , out-of-town company, etc, etc… we weren’t been able to agree on the right day to hold an event. We’re so grateful to Fran for cornering us at the January IWC meeting and locking down a date.

Not all ten writers who contributed to “Our Yucatan” were able to attend, but there were eight of us, which made for a good showing. We each read from our stories and took questions. It was exciting to meet our readers and share our love of reading and writing.

Every social occasion in Mexico ALWAYS includes food, flowers and fun… Fran & Friends certainly provided all three. We enjoyed ourselves so very much. ¡Muchas Gracias!

If you missed the event yesterday, you can buy a copy at the Merida English Library on Calle 53 between 66 and 68. You can also contact our group directly for a copy of Our Yucatan: writingfrommerida@gmail.com  As well, you can purchase the Kindle version or hard copy edition on line. If you enjoy the collection of stories, we would certainly appreciate a review on Amazon.

  1. A fun day indeed. Just a reminder to all that Our Yucatan is on sale at the English Library aong with books from other local English authors.

  2. Barb says:

I really enjoyed the event and wish I could have stayed longer.

  3. Melissa says:

As I’ve mentioned before, I purchased several copies and have given them to friends who own hotels in Merida to add to their lending libraries. That was truly one event in Merida I’m sorry I missed!

    • Thank you very much for your support Melissa. We will be having another event in Merida and I will let you know well ahead of time. You are in Merida full time, aren’t you? I believe you know my friend Lee… when he’s here next we should all get together

  4. Deanna Lagroix says:

Congratulations to all involved with The Event of “Our Yucatan”!! It appears from the pictures that the guests had a great chance to experience the talent of the Authors. Let’s hope the attendees spread the word so that many more will have a chance to buy and read the stories of the Yucatan.

We are so sorry we missed all the readings. We and several others had a challenging time finding Fran’s lovely ocean front place which caused us to arrive late. Nevertheless I did manage to have three of the authors autograph my book. Would the Writer’s Group consider doing this again in a more central location, say, early in the new year, by which time most of the snowbirds will have arrived. Perhaps it could be a reception at MEL, complete with botanas and cash bar, of course. Interestingly I chatted with one of the absent writers at a party yesterday evening but did not have my book (darn!).

  6. Lou (Mari-Lou) says:

would love to have a copy but how can i get you the dollars for it and for shipping to me..

  7. sharron mcgrath says:

We sure did have a grand time and must admit was sorry to see it end. I told Fran her party was indeed a “roaring success”.
