This is the best time of year for gardens in Yucatan. The not-quite-as-hot temperatures are much kinder to the flowers than the scorching mid-summer sun. The orchids thrive… the hibiscus calls the humming birds… the bougainvillea is a riot of purple covering our front wall.

Welcome to Writing From Merida
Have you ever thought about picking up and moving to another country? In 1976 I acted on that and moved to Merida, Yucatan, Mexico. I married Jorge and together we have raised our family, co-founded a college, lived amazing adventures and yes, we've had some cross culture clashes as well. My experiences in this corner of the world are the inspiration for much of my writingBlogroll

And here I am waiting for the first crocus to pop up. Jealous!
It’s funny you mention crocus. There is a type of crocus here and they are called “brujitas” or little witches. This is due to the way they “pop” up suddenly
The garden is just beautiful, a real oasis! Someday you will have to give me your secret for growing orchids. I have one that Debi gave me years ago that has yet to bloom. Thanks for sharing!
It takes an average of 7 years for an orchid to bloom. They also need the right sun exposure… be patient Little Grasshopper!
Thank you for the refreshing slideshow. Gorgeous!
I received a beautiful display of plants, (included a beautiful orchid), as a gift recently, even though it’s still gray and cold out, it’s been my reminder that Spring and gardening is around the corner. And that’s a very good thing as it is one of my passions.
Yes, Spring takes a while to take hold in the North but once it does, it is glorious. Try putting your orchid outside when it is warmer… maybe it will bloom again – some of mine do.
As a Newbie, I am always exploring online for articles
that can
benefit me. Thank you
You are most welcome. I hope you’ll continue to visit Writing From Merida
Wonderful blog! I found it while surfing around on Yahoo News.
Do you have any
suggestions on how to get listed in Yahoo News? I’ve been trying for a while but I never seem to get there! Thank you
I’m sorry I have no idea how this works… I just write my blog and where it goes is a mystery. But I am going to figure it out one of these days!
